The Candles Lit

"What're you doing?" Isaac asked me as I shoved a 10-peso coin into the slot.

"I have always lit a candle," I informed him. It was a tradition with me, my sister, and everyone in my family. The church was where I was baptized. It was where my sister was baptized. It was where my cousins were baptized.

The candles, the melted wax, the negligible peso coins spent; they are remnants of my childhood in the Philippines. Of Innocence, of faith, and of family.

We have always lit a candle.
