9. Numismatic bookbinding - Plated Coins by Campbell
In Campbells Plated coins, the full width plate was individually stitched in. It seems that somewhere in the transition from my old website to my new website I lost the review of Campbells book on plated coins, in any event I cannot find it on andrewmccabe.ancients.info so I better include a review at the next update
It was an immensely enjoyable experience, specially as the bookbinder, perhaps
75 years old, really loved handling these old books and quickly recognised that
they were rare and specialist and that he should take very much care with them.
And the price? Just 19 euro to convert a tatty paperback into a solid hardback
designed to last another 200 years. A few euros for the gold or silver stamped titles. And something extra for the special treatment cases - the complete rebuild of a disintegrated Santini being the most extreme case that will probably cost me 60 euros. I wonder I didn't do this long ago. Dear readers, please consider a trip to your local bookbinder, a real craft industry in an era of mass production, and really not so pricey.
