DorotheaThis image is from the final leg of my Disappearing Shanghai series, a photographic portrait of the city over the last five years. Last summer, as some of the last of these quarters faced demolition, I photographed intimate scenes of domestic life in the very neighborhoods represented in my Disappearing Shanghai street work of the previous four years. In pursuit of this project, hundreds of ordinary Chinese, both Shanghai natives and migrants, generously welcomed into their homes, opening their most private realms to me and to my cameras. Very soon, I will be posting a gallery of this work on my website: howardwfrench.net.
