    MacBook Pro melted MagSafe power adapter. Apparently my local Apple Store has "never seen this before", even though the same thing happened to my roommate not two weeks earlier. FYI - Took them two weeks to replace.

      Maybe there's an issue with power surges on your electric service? You might consider getting a line filter.

      It's not due to power surges, it's due to mechanical failure of the cord by wrapping it up the way Apple suggest. This is how I fixed it :
