Sunday Morning Suckiness

The angle minimizes the appearence, but I guarantee you that this tire was quite flat.
Yes, this jack is small, and fits neatly into the trunk. It also cranks veerrrry sloooooowly...
Good ol' tire iron. Glad I remembered to break the bolts on the ground this time. Won't make that mistake twice.
The micro-spare! Sadly, it was low on air. Yiminy criminy.
Hey, it's-a me, Mario!
Yeah, the ground's good and wet. Yeah, I was sittin' on it. Yeah, that sucked too.
hee hee!
what is "breaking the bolts?" You can probably tell I've never changed a tire
Sunday Morning Suckiness by Afroswede.
So, this morning the wife and I are already late for church, as we got to bed late and forgot to set the alarm to wake us up. We schlep to the car and I'm pulling out when something feels very wrong.

Parking brake on? Nope, that's fine. Car in correct gear? Yep. Uh-oh.

Yes indeedy, we'd developed a very flat tire overnight. So, this morning, instead of driving off to church, I got to experience the joy of changing a flat in the rain. Light rain, but still rain nonetheless.

The spare tire was, unfortunately, low on air. I guess I should have had it checked or something. It got us to Wal-Mart, however (at a brisk 30 MPH), where I had both front tires replaced (they couldn't repair the flat). Yippee skippee.

Oh well, it was about time for new tires anyhow.

When Halloween is on a Sunday, sometimes you get tricked instead of treated.
I hope it didn't set you back too much.

At least you had an extra hour to do all of this!

Small consolation.

Geeze... crappy day. Glad you didn't have to get a towing or anything, though.

True that. Really, I shouldn't be whining. Lots of people all around me go through much worse.

By "breaking the bolts", I mean doing that initial turn on the bolts that loosens them to where they'll actually spin. If you do it while the wheel's on the ground, it works. If you try to do it while the wheel is elevated, your turning motion is likely to make the wheel move, which makes getting the bolts started that much harder.

Ah... gotcha. That would be a pain in the rear trying to keep the wheel from turning.

We all very much appreciate that although you were late you still took the time to take a picture. I guess you would have to since it was such a special moment. Since this happened to you when you were getting ready to go to church you might tag this photo with "divine intervention".

When do we get to see a photo of the Afroswede himself? I've seen his shadow here and a dim reflection in this one, but not a true picture of the Man.

I've got some photos of him, and I may take a couple more this weekend to use as blackmail. I'll give him a day to try to talk me out of posting one. ;-)

My sister has posted a rather horrid picture of me. I won't tell you her flickr account name, though.

Afroswede and pwinn, you two must work at the same place... perhaps driving trucks? If so, that's ideal for someone who likes to take photos. You see a lot more landscape than most of us.

BTW, pwinn... just in case you had a pic already posted of Afroswede, I checked out all 300+ pictures on your flickr site... whew... some really nice shots on there.

Haha, driving trucks. I can just see us as a pair of truckers. Hmm, well, on second thought, no, I can't.

We live relatively close to each other and hang out sometimes. We took a road trip to Memphis earlier this year, so you'll see a lot of similar scenery there.

Heh, a truck driver! I don't think I could handle that job.

I forgot to post a pic today, I'll try to remember tonight. :-)

Whaddya know... it's just like the icon... Thanks pwinn.

Sorry, I was apparently way off on the "out on a limb" guess about your line of work... I based it on the fact that you both knew each other and had travelled together, and this photo kind of veered me into asking if that might be your line of work. Hope no offense was taken... none was meant. On second thought I would think that both of you have some sort of technical job.

Very astute, Rocketeer. I'm a programmer (that's my job title...I think "developer" sounds nicer) for the University of North Texas. PWinn's in IT too, and seems to spend a lot of time fixing other people's broke-ass code.

Er, no comment on what I do for a living, but thanks, Afroswede. :-)

The photo to which you linked, Rocketeer, was simply something we spotted on the side of the highway on our road trip. The trucks were in Arkansas, I think, and the road trip was to Memphis and back.

Hi Afroswede,

Cool photo! I used it on the Yahoo! Answers front page to complement a question in the Best of Answers module.
