What a great success! Carnaval San
Francisco held its first ever
"Preliminary" King and Queen
Competition on February 29th. ANNOUNCING
the end of Winter and the commencement
of the Spring Carnaval Countdown Season
to the first weekend of summer WHEN
Memorial Day weekend in the SF Mission
district explodes with the West Coast's
largest ethnic event. YOU WON'T WANT TO
MISS this celebration of life anchoring
the SF Bay Area with its only world
class ,all cultures and races, UNITY
event. ----------------Thanks to

part of the Cultural Encounters: Friday
Nights at the de Young Museum in Golden
Gate Park. Taking place at the same time
was
Artist-in-Residence closing reception
celebrating the residency of mask and
paper mache/Carnaval artist David Wagner
and Carnaval San Francisco exhibit at
the de Young during the month of
February. The event featured live music
by the Carnaval All-Star Band as we
began the season of celebrating joy in
the present by way of the 30th
anniversary of Carnaval San Francisco on
May 24 & 25th. To see this
competition you needed a coveted ticket
to see the competition which gave way to
a performance by Fogo na Ropa and a
final tour for the contestants in front
of the appreciative audience. You'll
also need a ticket for the March 29th
