Alicudi

    Alicudi is one of the Aeolian or Lipari Islands off the Northeast coast of Sicily. The island is the cone of an ancient volcano.

    Taken from the window seat of flight from Dublin to Catania.

      I was lucky that my window hadn't steamed up too badly in flight and that after flying mostly over clouds, we started to descend over a beautifully calm Tyrrhenian Sea.

      I should be honest and say that it didn't look quite like this straight out of the camera, being the typical washed-out-with-blue aircraft window scene. Auto-levels and a slight boost in contrast got me 95% of the way there, although sharpening may have over-emphasised the waves all round the island so they compete with the town buildings on the far side.
