"Jurassic Light"

Almost 5 years I've been driving by this spot and every time I pass by I see a fleeting composition. The pool in the foreground with the winding stream toward the mountains. The problem is that I'm usually driving somewhere with a purpose and unable to stop. Mentally I was preparing for sunrise light but just last week on a drive back to the north shore I pulled over and turned around. Why not give it a go. The sun was popping in and out of the clouds creating awesome dappled light. I took a number of exposures including some panoramas but this was the first I worked on.

Look for more work from this spot or similar as I do a study of the light over the seasons. And maybe I'll even get permission to shoot from inside the fence ;)

Thanks
aF

Lava's March

Lava's March

"Lava's March"

Up close and personal with the Kalapana lava flow on the Big Island of Hawaii. The lava was moving slowly enough that I could place the camera and compose, step away and use my remote release then grab the tripod. The plume in the background is the ocean entry point and it's resultant steam/gas/glow.
