how thin is too thin

how thin is too thin by Aemilia Case.
so i got told about a group on flickr that kind of scares me, rules to join are: "This is a pro-anorexia e bulimia in SL.
Pro beautiful and thin avies.
Pro model beauty.
If you agree to these rules, you can join the group."

o.O i only hope that the group is tongue in cheek

I thought the same thing. I hope it's toungue in cheek as well. I always say to each their own, beauty comes in every form, but that hits a little too close to home with me - I've known several effected by Anorexia/Bulimia. It's not quite a joke to me. -.- Glad I'm not alone in my thoughts. ty Amelia.

Smiles faintly, leaving witha sashay of her welllll rounded ass. Pridefully.

There is nothing wrong with thin avatars, who are we to judge those who choose to be? I look down at Guy for shooting down big avatars, as much as I look down at those shooting down thin ones. Two wrongs don't make a right.

I do agree the pro-ana thing scares me and I did not see that when I was sent an invite to the group, my avatar is very thin and it's why I joined it.

I believe Guy has changed that "pro-anorexia e bulimia in SL" part in her rules.

This is SL, a place to be anything you want. I guess I am pro-freedom to be what you want.

mmh, no. Two wrongs do not make a right. SO true.

I was not jumping into a debating controversy. It's not my thang.
Merely stating that the pro-anorexia e bulimia reference was not humourous, nor attractive to me. In the least. I think she did change it too. I was glad to see that.

And your right, Aradia, that's what SL is all about - Pro-Freedom.

YAY for all of our different opinions right?

Beautiful day to you all.

Thanks for letting me know about the rule change aradia, SL is definitely all about pro-freedom and I agree with that, this picture regardless of all the thin avs out there and there are some beautifully proportioned ones was a statement for pro ana and pro bulimia which is unhealthy IMO

This group scares me too. And removing the reference to "pro-ana" in the group join rules does not change the fact that this is a pro-ana group. The term "Thinspo" is almost exclusively used by the pro-anorexia community and relates to pictures of extremely thin women that people with eating disorders use to "inspire" themselves.

Pro-freedom or pro-irresponsibility?

While RPing a skinny AV is a matter of personal preference, promoting the unhealthy behaviors of a mental disorder (because that is what anorexia nervosa is, it's a mental disorder) is well.... you wouldn't see a "Yay for Bi-Polar" group, lol.

Welll the group is def not toungue in cheek.
It's a serious pro ana statement.

And yes Aradia..there's nothign wrong with thin, nor chubby avatars.
Pro freedom..beautiful. We all want that dont we?

But Ill tell you whats wrong. The fact that someone states ignorant coments like the following :

"this is not a joke. Im completely pro Ana/Mia.
so I decide made my avie in SL Thin and beautiful.
and I made this group to share only photos of thin avies. like a ana/mia club."

(quote taken from shoppingcartdisco.com/2008/05/29/thinspo-pro- ana-in-sl/ )

That states that one is completely devoid of any intellect and empathy.

Anorexia is not about fashon. Its not about what Vogue proclaims to be in this season. It's about angst, depression and self hatred.
Somehting that often ends in death.

That's what bugs me about this group. Not that her avie is thin. I couldnt care less about the size of her hips or ass.

Thank you Aemilia!!! <3!!!

Keiko: When I was sent an invite to this group those rules were not stated, I thought it was a group for simple "thin avatars" like myself, so I joined.

I know many don't actually believe this when I say it because my English is quite good, but English is not my first language, Spanish is my first language. I did not know what "Thinspo" meant or how it was used.

I got an IM yesterday by someone in my agency asking if I knew what "Thinspo" meant of course I said no and right away she told me, and then googled the term, and I was horrified by what I found. Then I was shown pictures where Guy is obviously showing that she's pro-ana and I initiated a conversation with Guy.

I don't believe in being hateful towards someone with a sickness, I believe in helping them. Yes she is promoting a sickness, a sickness that I feel she's a victim of, these people seek attention and others out there who are in their same situation to lean on and support one another and I think perhaps that is what Guy was trying to do.

Again, I have had friends and I included who've suffered from an eating disorder. I have seen many take their lives because of rejection, because of their lifestyle, because of the way people look at them. I believe this public display of hate will only cause Guy more harm than good and honestly, I hope that none of this leads to her doing something that will live in our consciences forever.

Guy stepped down from FACES after having a talk with her, an actual nice talk with her, no yelling, and no name calling. Just a simple, friendly, "I want to help you" talk, and she didn't want to cause me problems so she left. She also promised to stop posting these pictures, not sure that she will and honestly after seeing her last picture, I am a bit worried about Guy, she signed off and I have not seen her since.

I have been worried about this person all night and part of what’s today. I worry about people and their well being, and I believe she was crying out for help more than anything else. She shows a side to her that seems hard and unbreakable, but trusts me; she was hurt by all this. She apologized a hundred times last night, and I just kept saying it’s not your fault; I don’t want to bring more guilt in her mind that can lead her to again do something stupid.

As for FACES, I don’t endorse anorexia, I suffered from it when I was younger and I still suffer from problems with my stomach caused by my old habits. We had a girl when we first opened FACES that had a very thin avatar, when we were meeting I showed my concerns for her, and I told my fellow partners I didn’t want it to look as if we endorsed this kind of thing, I was also worried about her health and even had a conversation with her, I won’t mention her name but if she reads this, I know she’ll know who she is and she’ll know I’m saying the truth.

But again, I don’t believe in kicking people when they are down. When I see someone in trouble, it makes me want t help them not kick them to the side.

I hadn’t seen any of the pictures everyone speaks of, I haven’t been keeping up with the feed or Flickr, I have been busy with RL and when I am in-world I have been working on my home or doing MMS stuff. My comment here was about thin avatars and how I applaud those who choose to be different, white, black, pink, fat, thin, short, tall, furry, kid avatars… I respect them all the same way. That is why I am pro-freedom to be what you want; I am not pro to supporting a sickness.

And this is all I have to say regarding myself or FACES and I am posting it here because I think this is the only post on this topic that I find both sensible and mature.

this is something that worries me because of the glorification of it and how mentally debilitating as well as physical both diseases are. Like keiko said we all care
