Protest with Emails too!
Show flickr what you've paid for !
Maybe it's YOUR content that will not show for any reason, next time.

Im a panorama photographer, doing very large shots.
Maybe eventually I could photograph a German newspaper both and my panorama would be banned because of nippels on the magazins ?!
This is MAD. This is offending my hard work! I will not pay for this discrimination!

Complain at the source, complain here!

Time to protest without tags and take the pictures out of the censorship groups?

After reading Stewarts post, I'm not sure if they take everything "censorship" out or just the ones which are no real photos.

No real photos is actually something I could relate too, because that's in their rules.

Experience anyone?

After looking through a few flickr explore shots, it seems ALL the protest shots are gone, no matter photo or no photo.
Time to remove the tags and take them out of the protest groups, to be able to show them to the www flickr community again and bug a few people :(

Latest statement form Stewart:

We haven't been posting since we don't have any substantive to announce or anything new to say at this point. We could post periodically to say "nothing more to add", but I doubt that would help much. Because things have slowed down for the weekend both here and in Europe, I doubt we'll have anything new to say in the next few days, but we will eventually. At that point we will probably make a new official thread and just link to this one for the context since it is a lot to read.

We apologize that this happened in the first place, and we'd like to have more to say: there's almost nothing in the world that I'd enjoy doing less than deciding what grown-up Germans are or are not allowed to look at, but chief among them is arguing about what grown-up Germans are or are not allowed to look at. If there was something we could do right now, we would do it -- there are a pile of small and large features we want to add to Flickr in the next six months and I'd much rather be working on those (luckily the team is big enough that most people can keep working, though it is distracting for everyone). So, in the meantime, we're still reading and listening - we just can't move the conversation along from our end.

Internet censorship is control or suppression of the publishing or accessing of information on the Internet. The legal issues are similar to offline censorship.

Black spot

Black spot

There is this weird black spot on my display.
I've never noticed there before.
Two days ago a friend of mine saw it and pointed at it.
Neither of us has a clue why it is there and where it came from.
So we asked other people but no one had an answer.
I've asked the manufacturer but all I got was some lame excuse.
They said it is beyond their control.
They said it had to happen one day.
They said not to worry, I should just ignore it.
But what if there will be a second black spot tomorrow.
What if this one starts to grow?
What if I won't be able to see anything one day.

I am worried.

Open letter to Flickr Staff (Stewart & other members)

Dear All,

First of all, I want to thank you for the wonderful time i have had at flickr the last couple of months. It is an incredible initiative and i can not express the respect I have for you that you have been able to make Flickr such a beautiful place on the web. It is a beautiful gift (i’m not a paying member, yet)
However. Freedom, Freedom of mind, speech and any other form of freedom you can think of, is the greatest gift I have ever received apart maybe from love & life (as difficult as it sometimes is).
The updates so far on the matter concerning Censor ‘problems’ of Germany, Singapore & Hong Kong have not been satisfactory at all. Frankly, they (almost) seem to insult the intelligence of the average flickr member.
Next. The way you have handled the ‘deleting’ of the protest photo’s in explore, without a warning, I find downright outrageous and frankly, a dangerous measure. I can understand where you are coming from to a certain extend, but these kind of reactions (without any form of announcement?!?) make me very uneasy.
I know, I am only one user, but I don’t feel powerless. I am however, concerned, very concerned.
I therefore undertake this (mini) action mainly because I feel it is the only right thing to do. I’m on Flickr strike! Mind you, in general i’m not an activist, or political engaged (not that there is anything wrong with it), but I by now feel too involved to let things ‘just go’.
My biggest hope is that you will be able to find a good solution with the right ethics behind you. As long as you are unable to come up with such a solution, I hope you will be able to communicate your actions, and the reasons why you undertake them, in a more respectful way until this far.

Your’s truly,

Ps Excuse my English or pardon my french, I’m from Holland, so not a native speaker and my spellingchecker doesn’t work....

Joan van Nispen tot Sevenaer (Donjopi3)

feel free to copy this, fav it, or make up your own initiative...

Update: I posted this letter as a topic in the night of 16 th of june. Within no time the topic was closed by flickr. The reason was that I already had posted my letter on my homepage. Now, the 17th i opened a new topic with a second open letter. You'll find it here.

DON'T

Censorship is contagious
Even as flickr/yahoo launched this new round of censorship, legal action against them continues for their part in jailing Chinese writers/journalists including Shi Tao, Li Zhi and Jiang Lijun. Yahoo has acknowledged providing the Chinese government with information that led to Shi's arrest.

Updates on Yahoo in China:
April 19, 2007. Lawsuit filed against Yahoo for abetting the torture of pro-democracy writers by releasing data that allowed China's government to identify them.

June 10, 2007. Shi Tao joins lawsuit against Yahoo for their part in helping the Chinese government convict dissidents, including Shi and Wang.

You can join the flickr group Free Shi Tao (Yahoo!'s political prisoner).
