'When I was studying at Falmouth, I always had one book out that had nothing at all to do with my main area of study. But I found that the intensity of the research I was doing meant that I would always be able to relate that seemingly unrelated title back to my main research. Doing this created odd insights and I think a deeper understanding of my core subject.'
