I was very lucky to have a teacher at the age of 8 or 9 who encouraged us all to buy fountain pens and told us always to write in "real" ink and to shun ball pens. I still find pleasure in writing with a fountain pen, and there is definitely something special about receiving a handwritten letter in real ink.

I wish I had started that early! I got my first fountain pen when I was 16, but I use them as much as possible now. :)
