Pinwheel

wheeeeeeeeeeeeee!
Pinwheel by g r e e n g a g e.
© adamclutterbuck.com
First colour image for a while I notice! A bit of fun with a toy windmill I bought a few hours earlier for this purpose. Of course it would have been great to simply find it in situ - but life's not like that... (especially in January!) This is Porthmeor Beach in St Ives after sunset 123s f/11.0

@Vincent - 123 sec - the wind was very strong, the tripod was splayed very low and weighted down with a sand bag...

Thanks to all for your comments!

@lyrical - actually a 'bag of sand' - doesn't sound as dramatic as 'sand bag' does it!?

What a nice time. :-)

I believe it is vital to weight down the tripot when taking long shots.
I'd better do it also in calm.

This is yet another gorgeous picture. Frankly, I still can't get enough of your shots. The simplicity, ballance, perfect composition... brilliant. I've collected all your shots from Flickr! and created my own screensaver in ACDSee - all just your shots. I hope I haven't breaken the copyrights ;-). Now I'm always looking forward to any pause while working.

It is also sometimes great to see a slightly "different type of Adam" at work... perhaps a touch more playful... light-hearted... relaxed... and yet as good as always at art and photography. Lovely work. Compliments and regards ~jnconradie

Great ! And I think coloured photos are better than b&w. Almost every photo looks better with colours than in b&w, it gives it something special i think. Really like this one : )

Very nice I like it! I like the blues and greys giving it that emotional tone along with the longer expososure time. Kinda like standing firm and waiting on brighter/ calmer times.

Both images have great colours, and are wonderful depictions of natures landscapes at their finest. The challenger has a windmill, and that decides it!

Both have similar feels and create nice feelings of depth in different ways, but I think the colors in the challenged photo put it over the top. I like the variety of reds, oranges and yellows when compared to the flat blue of the challenger.

I feel your exposure was to long, there is not enough transition from the beach to the water. the tones all run together also.

Defenders photo is much more interesting to look at with all the textures, quality of light and the length of the exposure adds drama to the overall photo. I like the composition much better too.

Two great atmospheric land/seascapes.
While defender may appear to have better technical qualities, I am drawn towards the challenger. The quirkiness of the wheel complements and contrasts with the monotone of the overall image. Nively composed and balanced.

I prefer the defenders photo of the more interesting scenery, fog, light, rocks and colors. This one has great sky and water, though the colors dont really jump out at you and the windmill really does not add to it.

christian wind says:

this is a really tough choice. i like both pictures. what makes me vote for the challenger is the subtle composition in this one: the moving clouds in combination with the revolving toy windmill. plus: i was questioning myself about the real size of the toy windmill.

I like the idea and realization of your shot. The long shutter, palette and sky are nice. But somehow, the defender is really rich in terms of composition and ranges. The rocks texture is really there for me, so..
