So poor Andy was that close to appearing in Ironman.

I can see why they wanted to use the photo: The upper part of the VAB is pretty striking.

I love it that your "blurry" photo found Hollywood fame. It lends hope to all the other blurry photos on Flickr!!

Excellent story! Definitely a decisive moment!

Great story!

But knowing how Hollywood works, I find it hard to believe that Ashley didn't know it was a NASA related image. My thinking is that they had already used the image in the edit but wanted to minimize the cost to production, so the first call to you was fairly non-committal. Then, when it appeared that you might have been holding out for compensation, they likewise stepped up on a compensation pay.

For liability reasons, they couldn't take your word over the phone about the Creative Commons Attributive License. They had to have a signed release from you to rights of the image.

Not that I think you were robbed. I think your intentions were always altruistic and noble. I'm just pointing out some the possible manipulations in the process.

they probably thought they could get it cheap, or free. why else wouldn't they simply send an intern down there to photograph it?

Yeah dude, amazing story! And while reading the full story on your blog, I realized I've been visiting it before lots of times, though using the "hirnlego" theme since I didn't recognize it at first. Must say, well done with the site as well, really like the dynamic of it! And congrats to this Iron Man-photo story!

I'm confused on the credit / cost thing. It would cost *you* $1500 to get your name in the credits? Given that they were talking about compensation, I wonder if you could've asked for $1500, and then paid that to them to get in the credits.

Nice one! I've seen this film twice on transatlantic flights and totally dug it. Though I like every in-flight film .. captive audience. Anyhow, now I like Iron Man even more.

@Dave Bug
I think what Ashley meant was it would cost the production company $1500, but instead she was prepared to pay less to adactio instead.

Why, pablofraken, it was here all along! All you had to do was click your heels and say "I will read the photo description. I will read the photo description."

I've read the blog story first, then I came in here.
The thing was, I couldn't find the "poster" everyone was talking about.
I watched the movie, and I've found your picture at 5min 08secs.
Everyone thought it was a poster pic, that's why I couldn't find it.

pablofraken, when you say "everyone thought it was a poster pic", do you mean "I thought it was a poster pic?" ...'cause everyone here seems pretty clear that it's a shot from the movie.

interesting that they used another public photo in the movie..
they got in a snafu after using a picture a spy snapper took of the production

The "$1500 to get in the credits" bit sounds like nonsense. It only takes someone in charge to say "put this guy's name in" and boom. He's in. A lot of credits are political or union-driven. You could have gotten in the thank you's.
