iJustine Ezarik vs. Brian Shaler - Internet Celebrity Jump - editorial Jumping - ACME Photography

Justine Ezarik and Brian Shaler do the "Shalerjump" in Santa Monica California.

iJustine [on twitter] and BrianShaler [on twitter] have decent amount of "fans" online for various projects which they each do.

They could also be considered "Power Users" of twitter.com

This photo documents a friendly competition to see who could jump high while also using good form, poise and model like poise... AKA a ShalerJump

I'm not quite sure who won, which you would think would be very easy, just look at the height right? Well, there are other factors like pose, when the photo is snapped, etc.

So..... Why don't you vote for iJustine or Brian Shaler....
Just put a comment below with who you think is "winning" the photo finish. I'm the photographer, but YOU be the judge! (If' you're not sure, you can still critique each one's style)

PS
: Oh ya, I'm on twitter too: AcmePhoto

    interesting. very

Justine wins, for sure — I'm biased.

Seriously (seriously), though, the perfect right-angle of her right arm contrasted by her perfectly straight left arm, the amazing bend in both legs, and all that hair with all that shape; easily pwns Brian. Sorry, Brian.

    Excellent photo !!!

justine wins. there's no doubt about it.

    iJUSTINE!!!!!

  7. Rustybuckets (66 months ago | reply)

iJustine so won :) It would of been awesome if she punched him in the face lmao.

  8. chuck-reynolds (66 months ago | reply)

Haha nice... Brian's still got the better jump but she's better looking fo sho!

  9. schmelding (66 months ago | reply)

She's better looking and has some flair in her jump, but Brian's shadow looks better and more clear.

    The verdict...?

She wins the jump by a hair because of her hair.

But he wins in the Shadow Competition. :)

  10. ACME-Nollmeyer (66 months ago | reply)

    Schmeld,

Hmm, one good for each, I say it's nearly a tie!?

So I guess Shaler can only win if he grows his hair out? Now I know why they have wNBA and NBA. :-)

  11. schmelding (66 months ago | reply)

    @ACME-Nollmeyer:

Well, there's more to it than that -- iJustine doesn't get 5 o'clock shadow. :P

Also, her arm and leg positions are more unique.

  12. ACME-Nollmeyer (66 months ago | reply)

    @schmelding That's funny.... 5 o'clock shadow!

@all, wow, i missed some of the other comments. It looks like Justine is winning. (are there just guys viewing this...;-)

Doesn't Brian have geek girls following him??

  13. Coogan Photo (66 months ago | reply)

I was going to say his shadow is winning, but instead I'l say it looks like his shadow is going to bite her leg.

I love her wild hair as well... also, funny videos on your web site Justine -- I like em.

    iJustine has my vote!

  17. goeringjon (66 months ago | reply)

the local (Brian) gets my vote. Since when does wannabe's beat out the Master Jumper.....sheez

  18. austinmiles (66 months ago | reply)

Yeah, I am giving Brian the vote on this. Though I am surprised by Justine's leap. Hers seems a bit more crazy and less calculated.

The 'Shaler Jump' as illustrated is essentially the Super Mario Bro's jump. It looks the same every time.

  19. Brian Shaler (66 months ago | reply)

@boxseven: I would argue that it doesn't look the same every time, but it is similar to about 2/3 of the ShalerJump photos to date.

I would agree with "more crazy and less calculated" and you could also say it's a little sloppy and amateurish ;-) I think the wild hair is awesome, but in this photo, it is detracting from the photo because you can't even tell that this is THE Justine Ezarik. What if it's just a look-a-like?

  20. strebel (66 months ago | reply)

pure gangster.. this is a contest of "ShalerJump".

While a decent effort, I do not think It will called the "JustineJump" anytime soon.

Although.. Justine has to have somthin, that is "hers" and so another contest should be in order. Justine vs Shaler in Justine____ contest.

  21. iTony (66 months ago | reply)

    brianshaler yeah!
that is a vote btw :P

  22. iTony (66 months ago | reply)

it IS a ShalerJump of course he is winning

  23. Chris Tingom (66 months ago | reply)

    Brian Shaler! YEAH!!!!

  24. nick_klofkorn (66 months ago | reply)

How can you compete with the original? You can't, thats how.

Looks to me like Shaler has thoroughly trounced the "competition" this time.

  25. Tim Dachtera (66 months ago | reply)

I'm going to have to call it a tie, old vs. new, hard to make the call - one has height, one has beauty!

On a tech note, you really only had a single 800 for lighting? I've got a 600 and don't feel I get nearly as much light, granted, lesser model, but still, can't be *that* much of a difference?

  26. sunnythaper (66 months ago | reply)

Obviously the hair does nothing but distract from a very bad jump. It also looks as though she is using arm physics to propel herself rather than pure leg strength... I'm giving this one to Brian, the obviously better contender.

  27. ChiliMac (66 months ago | reply)

Justine of course. But that may be because her eyes hypnotized me to always vote for her. ;D

  28. nerdboxpilot (66 months ago | reply)

How did y'all photoshop out the trampolines?

  29. ACME-Nollmeyer (66 months ago | reply)

I'll "count" votes later, but it looks like there's been a bit of a "rally" for Mr Shaler......

It's also funny to see how some comments are way one way, or the other.... Like true fans of any sport / team. (Just don't paint your faces folks!)

@ValleyPhotography Yes it's one SB800, not even on full power, maybe 1/2 power or 1/2 - 2/3's Try opening up on your camera, or cranking up your ISO if your flash is having problems?! The sb800 may have an extra stop though.

@nerdboxpilot Ha, funny..... Not trampolies, It's that good!

@ijustine For one who hasn't jumped as much, I was impressed... I'll bet it's from your work back in the Parkour days?

  30. globochem3x1minus1 (66 months ago | reply)

    brian. obviously.

  31. joely5525 (66 months ago | reply)

brian totally pwnt. he got some righteous air there

  32. jwaldrip (66 months ago | reply)

    Justine FTW!

  33. Tim Dachtera (66 months ago | reply)

OK - I shall get off the fence and vote to the veteran here - Sorry Justine, my vote goes to Brian

  34. Daniel Greene (66 months ago | reply)

Love the strong shadows and the tilted angle!

Shaler looks higher, but the horizon line is tilted in his favor. Fun fun.

  35. Brian Shaler (66 months ago | reply)

@Daniel: If you notice that I'm behind her, the lower camera perspective is actually in *her* favor more than the horizon line. Take a look at the shadows (the light was about 6 feet above the ground).

With that knowledge, feel free to cast a vote to break the current tie ;-)

  36. CC Chapman (66 months ago | reply)

    Killer shot!

BTW, I'm an admin for a group called Valley of the Sun (Phoenix Metro), and we'd love to have your photo added to the group.

  39. ACME-Nollmeyer (65 months ago | reply)

Daniel Greene Ah, I would if you want... however this photo was kinda the "extened" phoenix arizona.... Like west LA (santa monica)...

Although sometimes when I'm drivng to the "west side" like Verrado, i feel like i'm heading toward East Los Angeles! :-)

  40. Daniel Greene (65 months ago | reply)

Oh, okay, then. Just remember us for your Valley photos. =)

Not, like the Valley, like, the Galleria, like, OMG, I'm so sure!
