Midtown Manhattan at Night from Old Glory Park

Just a quick shot of midtown from Old Glory Park on my way back from the Delaware Water Gap (which only yielded 7 hours of driving and a couple miles of hiking with my 4x5 gear). I liked the off-angle view from Old Glory Park more than Hamilton Park. From Hamilton Park you can look down the cross-streets, but the appearance of density is reduced, a bunch of buildings are hidden, and the lights in Times Square are also more hidden. I'd never been over here before, but at that point I just wanted to be home, so I took one shot and left. The city looks so close and yet it took another 2 hours to get home.

This image is remarkable, and it taunts my own failed attempt from last winter. Beautiful color, plenty of detail, and you're right about this being the much better angle than Hamilton. This one is a fave for me, well done.

Impressive! I never got a shot from that place. I totally should go.
BTW, do you have a 4x5 camera? Had you ever upload pictures from it? I look forward to see them.

    - Yes, I have a Cambo 4x5 monorail. I've just taken a few test exposures, and no uploads yet because I don't have a scanner. I'm using Provia 100. I'm pretty much reserving its use for special shots or where I would benefit from shift/rise or tilt, but I haven't been able to be out when the light is really good for a 5ish-stop single exposure.

Two hours from there? No way. It looks so incredibly close. Density doesn't even come close to describing this new. "Packed" works pretty well. And yet, it's such an amazing sight. Glad you stopped.

Freaking amazing work, Andrew. Can't believe it was a quickie. The blue tones here are exquisite, and I like the flow of water with all the reflections. A really brilliant image, and I'd love to take some city-scapes even half this good some day. Killer work.

Amazing shot! I took some pics in the same area on the same day. I drove by Old Glory Park and seen the amazing colors the city was giving but decided to drive further up to take the pic. After seeing your pic I should have taken my pics at Old Glory Park. :-(... Great work!
