Chess Club
I gave a description today of the UK's and France's political preparations for their invasion of Egypt during the '56 Suez Crisis.
On the left, the US -- the cool kids, the cheerleaders, the jocks. On the right, the stoners, the metal heads, the goths. In the middle? Egypt, the new kid to the school.
The jocks / cool kids are in a fight to the death with the stoners, for the very soul of the new kid.
And Israel, France, and the UK? They're the chess club. They're upset because the new kid took their lunch money, but really, the jocks and cheerleaders, and the stoners and goths all really don't care and all really aren't gong to do anything about the stolen lunch money. Not now, not any time soon, not when they're fighting for the very soul of the new kid.
Band geeks. Yep, I used that description today. And I got away with it, too -- it was the perfect analogy.
