Designed by William G. Preston as the Savannah Volunteer Guards Armory, the 36,248-square-foot Romanesque Revival-style building features deep arches, massive corner towers and ornate wrought iron balconies overlooking beautiful Madison Square. The building, which originally contained a drill hall, ballroom, large company rooms and a club for the guards, now houses the SCAD welcome center, the departments of admission and graphic design, shopSCAD and the May Poetter Gallery.
