Bonnet Carré Spillway 1

Used for flood control of the Mississippi River, it was constructed from 1929 to 1936. The structure consists of 350 bays that have 20 creosoted timbers per bay. It has been opened 9 times before this. This opening was on May 9, 2011.

Bonnet Carré Spillway 2

Used for flood control of the Mississippi River, it was constructed from 1929 to 1936. The structure consists of 350 bays that have 20 creosoted timbers per bay. It has been opened 9 times before this. This opening was on May 9, 2011. The Army Corps of Engineers monitors the floodway from an airboat. They chased me away (from the path of the water) right after I took this photo.
