The Post-It Note Car (The Original Post-it Note Jaguar!). by Scott Ableman.

What we did to Walt's Jaguar on Friday (not that I was there or anything...).

Thanks for all your faves. Over 275,000 views now on this photoset and hundreds of flickr "faves" on this photo, which shows the finished product in the garage.

Unfortunately, no cameras were present when he found it, but he enjoyed the joke. He drove it home with most of the Post-Its intact so his kids could see it.

Got any tips for anyone wanting to do this to their friends? How many pads of Post-Its do you think you used for the Jag? How much time would you need to accomplish this? Would a mixture of big Post-Its and small ones have worked better?

It only took a couple of hours but as you can see we had a lot of volunteer helpers down in the garage. I was just a participant -- not by any means the mastermind. I know we started with 14,000 Post-Its (purchased for the ocassion -- not from the supply closet) and we did not use them all (though we used most of them). I'm sure a mix of large and small might make for more precise detail work, but would take a lot longer and in my opinion would not be necessary. They stayed in place pretty well. They did no damage to the car, nor did they fly off, because as we applied them we all made sure to rotate them so they weren't all facing the same direction. This made them more secure and prevented them from being easily peeled off in large clumps.

I would do a wind tunnel application sticky side first so no wind would cup underneath like... winshield notes upside down,door notes sideways and the back of the car rightside up.
This way less would be blown off by driving.

That's funny.

Two things stick out in my head:

one time we padded a friends car which was parked in his high school parking lot while he was on a school ski trip (stuck maxi-pads all over his car) so when he got off the bus him and all his friends saw the pads.

another time we poured liquid dish detergent all over a friends car and then poured boxes of rice krispies all over it.

Both were really mad at us, but we got alot of laughs.....
