Why did the echidna cross the road?

The short-beaked echidna (Tachyglossus aculeatus) is one of Australia's more bizarre animals -- along with the platypus, they're the only two living members of the monotreme group, which are egg-laying mammals. They look a bit like hedgehogs, and forage like anteaters. Their young are called 'puggles.' Ha!

Isn't this a lovely creature. We love hedgehogs and have them in our garden and have boxes for them to hibernate overwinter. Trouble is our winters are so warm now and they don't know whats going on.

A lovely capture of this little animal. We saw one walking along the path when we visited the Great Ocean Road. It didn't seem worried by us, just kept eating ants.

      Seen in my contacts' photos.
