60in x 38in @ 300ppi; Adobe Photoshop CS5. I liked the concept so much, that I wanted to redo it, but in a different layout. Overall, the style is the same. Same colors - but different blending to produce a wider range of colors in the final piece.

Haunting

Haunting

full size: mattlindley.info/post/2012/01/21/Haunting.aspx

33in x 52in @ 300ppi; Adobe Photoshop. Have I mentioned how much I love horror stories? I can't say that it's my favorite genre; but, it's in my top two. Books and movies. Why? Hard to say. Maybe because it was my go-to genre as a child, whenever I was home sick. Maybe it's because my parents took me to see (some) horror movies at a young age (Alien, most notably). I'm not sure why I have such a strong affinity. I love horror like most people love chocolate. I crave it.

So, why bring this up & who cares? Because it is an insight to how my mind works. The other day, I looked down at my iphone and saw a pattern of smudges on the screen. In my mind, I saw this image - the texture, the form, and the color. Once seen (imagined? interpreted?), I had to create it. Yes, HAD to. That is how the mind of an artist sometimes works. Some ideas - not all, necessarily; but, some - create a compulsion. You feel a need to produce the image/scene. When the urge hits you, it is difficult, if not impossible, to deny or ignore. It nips at you. It's not any indication of a good idea or will result in a great work of art. It may be meaningless to everyone else - or even to the artist.

78in x 50in @ 300 ppi; Adobe Camera Raw, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop. Decided to work with another photo I took of this view in New York. This time, it's pure photo manipulation. I like the muted colors in this shot. Tons of processing here. I also decided to go a bit larger. Why? Well, though this is a shot of New York, I'm from Texas. We do things bigger in Texas. (c:

33in x 52in @ 300ppi; Adobe Photoshop. This is from a photo I took in New York back in January 2008.I love this shot of the M Hotel - so much that I keep returning to it every so often. I used a combination of photo manipulation and drawing to achieve this effect. Hope you like it!
