Walking Away from the Shitstorm That is Transformers 2
Initially, I decided to only experiment with close ups of Transformers figures to make them larger than they really were just for the hell of it, but not make a habit of it. However, with all of the fires going recently, I couldn't pass up the opportunity to get Nemesis Prime, or Scourge rather, posed with smoke behind him as a "wake of devastation" type shot. I was happy that the light piping helped illuminate the red eyes.
Now I'm sure most Transfans will go into a "nerd-rage' when they read the title of this shot, as is usual the moment you disagree with a Transfan or their hobby. Before any childish attempt to start a flame war is made, I'd like to point out that I too was a Transfan. I have minute recollections of watching the original TV show that launched the franchise in America after Hasbro purchased the *original* concepts from Japan. The first set of figures were originally a combination of the Diaclone and Microman series. So whenever some Transfan whines and throws a fit complaining that "something isn't like the original series," they are in fact hypocrites, because the "original figures and show" weren't original at all, but were purchased from other franchises. Ironic, right?
Now that being said, I enjoyed the various lines of figures and some of the shows. When this figure was first displayed in Japan, American fans were being fistfuls of cash to get their hands on it. A black and evil, red claymore wielding Optimus Prime look-alike (ya it was a repaint from Generation 2, so sue me) was suddenly a popular concept within the franchise. I too loved this figure the moment I saw it. My personal enjoyment from the Transformers sagas and universes ended around RiD, when the shows and product lines were specifically targeted to children. I did enjoy the original live action movie from Micheal Bay, and since that point, sold off the majority of my collection. I was determined to see Transformers 2 after it came out in theaters... and wow, what a pile of shit. A cybernetic girl with a whip tongue licking the hero in the face? Loose plot? Fan-wank off moment? It's as if the script were pieced together from written segments of ideas written scattered all over the floor on bits of paper, and chosen at random after the jizz of fanboys doing a circle jerk landed upon them, with the stringy jets in between holding the concepts together. This movie was a horrendous pile of shit, and even scored low with Rotten Tomatoes.
I will always enjoy my past memories of growing up with Transformers. But the franchise has been milked so hard that the cow collapsed and shit itself just before dying. $5 says that if Transtech had become a reality, and the franchise aimed entirely for the family and not the kiddies, we wouldn't have the crap that is Transformers 2 and Transformers Animated. There's no reason for poor quality scripts, concepts, artwork, or ideas in this day and age of entertainment, period.

It was Before the World Ended...
This is a closer view of that "rip in the sky." It was amazing, because this cloud formation slowly rotated on itself as it headed westward. The bright circle in the left hand corner of the shot is indeed the early afternoon sun shining through.

...When the Sky Tore Itself
Last week there was a strange tropical storm out here on the West Coast. I ran outside a few times to try and see what kinds of shots I could get. The last time I ran out, I was confronted by this view, and I was amazed. No editing was done to the photo, as this was exactly how the storm looked. A dear good friend of mine said I had to upload a few shots of the storm, hehe. Comments?

Then & Now
A few months back, this old newspaper blew into my backyard, and seeing as how it was late into the year of 2008, I thought it was strange the paper was dated Friday, July 13, 2007. I set the paper aside on a planter shelf with a stone on top of it, so it wouldn't blow away... and then promptly forgot about it due to a busy schedule.
I found it again in a stack of things in my backyard whilst doing yard work. What makes this newspaper so interesting is the content of it, which was reflecting a positive attitude about the economy being so high, right before the recession started kicking in. Below this paragraph will be content and excerpts from the article that people may find of interest, reflecting on how our recent history has troubled so many people across the economical world.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"The Dow Jones industrials rose 200 points into record territory and the S&P 500 also set a record as June sales reports beat expectations. The positive news allowed investors to set aside concerns about the economy's health."
"...generally sluggish retail sales allowed investors to toss aside concerns about the general health of the economy."
"The S&P 500 rose 28.94, or 1.91 percent, to 1,547.70, above its record close of 1,539.18, set June 4."
"The Dow shot up 283.86, 2.09 percent, to 13,861.73; its previous record close was 13,676.32 also set June 4."
"...said Doug Roberts, chief investment strategist for investment research company Channel Capital Research, citing the chain's 2.4 percent jump in sales... "The kind of disaster situation that everybody was preparing for doesn't seem to be playing out."
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
According to CNN for today, March 30, 2009, the DOW is at 7,522.02 points, and the S&P is at 787.53 points. I think it's clear to see that something that was considered trash blowing into my yard could so interestingly reveal a difference in today's economy versus the one of less than two years prior. Odd, isn't it?

Define, "ridiculous"
I was digging through all my old files of photos and I came across this gem, and I had all but forgotten I had taken it. While picking up a friend, this "thing" crossed an intersection in front of me, and I had to get pictures of it. This one came out the best; as it was difficult getting the full vehicle into my field of view.
Now I don't hate the Hummer, and I don't hate limos. Yet this things feels and looks extremely ridiculous. I was laughing so hard when I first saw this thing, I couldn't believe it was real. I share with you this entry on comedy. Comments?
