backpack gentoo
Waddling through the snow of a continent reserved for research, a gentoo penguin wears a radio backpack that provides monitoring biologists with data on blood flow and pressure. The neck rig draws blood samples by remote control. After a few days in the service of science, the bird will be released in a nearby rookery, unencumbered and unharmed. This project - helping man understand penguin physiology and adaptation to a harsh environment - is part of the multination Antarctic research program that began with the 1957-58 International Geophysical Year.

I wonder if the other penguins make fun of him and call him names or say things like "Your mother dresses you funny."

Yeah, I was looking more closely and wondering how much pain the little guy endures for the cause.

Yeah he's cute but this is animal cruelty. We have no right to do this to animals. We should just let them live in peace as God intended.
