Sign of the Times

Sign of the Times

The biggest police operation in Leicestershire for 25 years went down in my current location of residence today (Leicester), the 'I'm not racist, but..." English Defence League planned several protest marches.

To put it into perspective Leicester is one of the top cities in the UK for cultural diversity, it has a massive proportion of Indian ethnicity (hurray for probable ignorance there) as well as eastern European immigrants.

From previous experience I don't like trying to get close to any protests where the 'general public' spectators aren't. It's very easy to get mixed up and trapped when cops are closing streets everywhere.

The above happened to a couple of my friends, even after I had warned them; luckily Leicester has a lot of tucked away shortcuts to get out of places easier than having to walk all the way around the blockades.

Read up on the going down here: www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-leicestershire-11505724

p.s. I'm a little bit disappointed nothing crazy went down, although extremely pleased that nobody was seriously injured on either sides.

Solid State Logic

Solid State Logic

I can thank Google for the name of this photo, it's officially the easiest way of coming up with a funky photo name in an instant.

Step 1. Head to Google silly!
Step 2. Type in the first word you associate with the photo
Step 3. Check the list of suggestions to see if anything sparks your imagination
Step 4. ???
Step 5. Start doing work on final year uni projects with no profit to speak of.

:c

State of Flow

State of Flow

I've finally decided on my final year uni project, the best way to summarise it is "Designing user interfaces to facilitate creative flow".

The essential idea is for me to design a brainstorming application that is designed to facilitate users to enter a state of 'flow' (also know as 'in the zone' in sporting circles).

As I'm doing Multimedia Computing, I'll try and use my expertise in several fields, to try and create an environment that allows users to achieve maximum creativity.

If anyone has any books or substances that may help with that crazy idea, please give me a shout as I could use the help!

Sharp Reflections

Sharp Reflections

This pictures looks so unbelievably Photoshopped it's unreal, just looks I've randomly cut out some water from another photo and just cut it across the picture halfway down.

It's such a pity that the bird was overexposed at the time, I've been back to the same location a couple of times and the water has never been still enough to get that lovely crisp edge you see in this shot.

I wonder what this shot might look like in Autumn when all the bushes in the background will be changing colour, might be able to get some pretty sweet tones going on.

Make Your Own Path

Make Your Own Path

I keep forgetting to upload my photos to Flickr, I've got a tonne of processed ones just sitting on my desktop waiting to be uploaded; it's probably due to my new process of leaving a photo a week before deciding if it's worth keeping or not.

It's very easy to link photos to what the atmosphere was like when you took it, of course this doesn't transfer to people just viewing the picture normally; waiting a week usually removes most of the short-term atmosphere memories, but it means I usually forget to put anything up on Flickr for weeks at a time!
