MathML on iphone

MathML on iphone by __Olga__.
MathML is rendered here using css in Safari on a iphone. Because it is MathML, the fonts scale and zooming makes the formula very readable. The MathML profile for CSS is doing the trick, with the stylesheet by David using the css by George for Opera.

Interesting that iPhone makes a stab at rendering MathML, but this isn't correct. Both Safari on the Mac and on the iPhone fail to render the above page correctly.

So, that is Safari showing the math only it is using a "trick" which tries to render as MathML would just by CSS. It is not as good as Firefox of course (especially in the baselines) but considering there is no way to render MathML natively in Safari, this is pretty awesome.

I see. That didn't soak in the first time.

Also, looking at the markup it appears that Firefox is prettier, but wrong -- it renders the radical signs only over the numerator but should be over the whole fraction -- so Safari, except for problems that look like stuck superscripts (as you say, baseline problems) appears to be closer to the correct output.

Something is rotten ...... AHA! You have to install the STIX math fonts, see: www.mozilla.org/projects/mathml/fonts/, then Firefox gets it right. Mathematically wrong but pretty, is worse than useless -- better to not try at all than to get it wrong (take note Firefox developers, I don't know what the solution is other than shipping the fonts with the distribution).
