It's been a while since I've done any LE water photos, even longer since I've photographed the ocean and longer still since I've done a shoot of a pier. Well, here are all three in one, combined with the warmth of a sunset. This was my last photo of my session on Brighton beach with Julie after a day of science lectures.

This is the West Pier, the little sister to Brighton's main Palace Pier. As you can probably tell, it has seen some better days. It was built in 1866, but closed in 1975. Since then, it's been damaged by storms, been ravaged by two fires and even had a fighter-bomber crash into it in 1944.

The colours really pop on this one when you view it in the lightbox. Speaking of which, I'm looking forward to the Flickr redesign that should be going live in the next week or so. Anyone got any thoughts or hopes for this? Let's hope it's better than the recent, hideous 500px redesign launched last week. No friends page, really?!

Sorry for the lack of activity recently, I've been very busy. This shot was at the start of a sunrise session at my second favourite London photographic location, Battersea (My first favourite being Tower Bridge). Although not as vibrant and dramatic as the shot later in the morning, I like the more subtle colours in this scene. It was just before the sun started to rise properly, with just a few hints of pink in the sky.

A Bridge of Two Halves

View on black please! And large. For the detail.

I've shown you Tower Bridge when the sky is pink and also when the sky was blue. Now, here it is when it's both! I've also shown you Tower Bridge at night, but I couldn't squeeze everything into this photo.

This was part of that fantastic sunset where I got to see so many wonderful colours in the sky. Although similar to the previous images, I like the feel of this one; dual main colours and a lot of breathing room for the landmark.

Please view this one large so you can see the details on the bridge and in the clouds. Thank you for all the recent comments and favourites! I read every single comment that's left and check out the photostreams of every single person who adds me as a contact. I might not add you back, as that would be unwieldy and impractical for me, but I certainly have a look at your photos!

Edit:
I have removed the annoy post in the water. It took me a while, but it was eventually worth it.

The Morning Climb

The Morning Climb

View on large on black please! (I know you fickle, lazy people won't actually do this)

Quite a different sunrise for you today. A cloudless sky with the sun has quite a different feel than a cloudy one, but it is still just as beautiful sometimes. This was around 06:00 hours and it was simply breathtaking to stand at the top of these many steps and see the sun slowly rise.

The question is, where is the sun rising above? Where am I standing? I've left this photo ungeotagged (for now) and not mentioned the location in the tags. Those of you who know me, know that I get around a lot, so this could be Europe, Africa, Asia... No prizes for guessing correctly, but it would be interesting to see who gets it right!

As always, this looks much, much, much nicer on a black background, viewed large. Plus, it might give you some clues that you might have missed...

Update:
As 99.99% of you have rightly guessed, this is indeed right beside the Sacre Coeur on top of Montemartre in Paris. I'm going to have to make the next competition a lot harder! Well done everyone!

Morning in Estonia

Morning in Estonia

View on large black please!

On a recent Baltic trip, myself and Greg went to Helsinki and Tallinn. Whilst in Tallinn, we had gotten up for a sunrise shoot and got the most wonderful colours in the sky. It was far better than our previous early morning shoot in Helsinki. The sky in this shot actually reminds me of one of my dawn shots of Battersea in London.

Randomly, my last three photos have all been of UNESCO world heritage sites. This image looks far, far better in the lightbox, so give that a go.

There is a quick behind the scenes video for this photoshoot on Vimeo:
vimeo.com/32603244 You can see from the video that the colours in this photo were actually in the sky and not added post-processing.

Edit:
Seeing this in the light of day, I wasn't happy with the overall processing. I've fixed a few things and lightened the whole image. It'll probably make it drop out of Explore, but it's a better image overall and that's all that matters.
