The city of San Francisco requested permission for an experimental sign on Market @ Octavia warning cyclists of "prohibited right turns", where motorists illegally turn right on Octavia and often hook cyclists passing on the right, in spite of the presence of signs, stripes and markings, posts and even a concrete median.

Oh my. Reminds me of the very graphic "black spot" signs I used to see in Ireland, showing the cyclist doing a header over the handlebars smack onto the pavement.
I am not sure how well these signs would go over in Portland, given our two recent and terrible deaths from right hooks - on the one hand, the sign is powerful in its message - on the other hand, it really brings back the pain of our community's loss . . .
