Gravel Pit Lake Panorama

Gravel Pit Lake Panorama

After setting up camp at Miguel Meadows, Cynthia and I headed over to Gravel Pit Lake to see what it was like. Not the clearest lake, damp, mosquitoes. Wouldn't have wanted to camp here, at least during the summer.

7 photos, handheld, stitched using Hugin.

The Milky Way Eludes Me

The Milky Way Eludes Me

Cynthia and I were at Miguel Meadows near Hetch Hetchy this past Friday. I tried taking Milky Way pictures shortly after dark but I think I was out too early. Next time I need to check the astronomy software before heading out to make sure I'm there at the right time.

I'm pretty sure the Milky Way is hiding out at the bottom of the frame. Later that night I saw it straight up overhead from inside our tent, but at that point I didn't want to risk waking up Cynthia to take more pictures.

GF1, 20mm, f/1.7, ISO 1600, 15s.

Not yet sure the GF1 is worthy of this subject, but it does save a lot of pack weight.

O'Shaughnessy Outflow

O'Shaughnessy Outflow

This is the dam is part of the system that provides water for San Francisco. The water flowing out of the dam produced quite a roar, and rainbows too from other angles.

Hetch Hetchy Panorama

Hetch Hetchy Panorama

For those who don't know, Hetch Hetchy was sort of a miniature Yosemite Valley before it was dammed and flooded in the early 1900s to provide water for San Francisco. This is the view from the north side of the valley looking south east across the reservoir. Kolana Rock is the dome on the opposite shore just left of center; further up the valley, to the left of Kolana Rock in the photo, is Le Conte Point. The reservoir continues up the valley to the right of Le Conte Point, while Tiltill and Rancheria Creeks enter the reservoir to the left of Le Conte Point. Tueeulala and Wapama Falls are just off the left side of the frame, and O'Shaughnessy Dam is a ways off the right side of the frame.

This image is a section of a 12 image panorama stitched using Hugin.
