There's a bookstore in Vancouver called
Chroma books that I think *should* organize
by colour, though.

perhaps you should stack them from darkest to lightest to create some sort of pleasing chromatic scale.

There was a Ludlow composing room in Toronto where all the cabinets were painted sky blue and the type cases safety orange! A sight to bestow.
