Nile Basin Development Forum - Opening Ceremony
October 23, marked the opening of the 5th Nile Basin Development Forum, taking place at the Kigali Convention Centre. The Nile Basin Development Forum is a biennial science-policy dialogue that brings together stakeholders from across the Nile Basin and around the world and build consensus on the Nile cooperation agenda. More than 500 participants from Nile Basin member states and the international community are in Kigali for the Forum.
The Forum is also a platform for policy makers, researchers, the private sector, civil society and development partners to discuss the sustainable management and development of Nile Basin water resources. The theme of the fifth Nile Basin Development Forum is: Investing in Nile cooperation for a water secure future.
Rwanda ratified the Nile Basin Cooperative Framework Agreement in 2012 and has put in place a National Water Master Plan to ensure sustainable management, development and utilisation of water resources in the country. Rwanda has also developed catchment management plans for sustainable management of water resources and landscape rehabilitation.
