I like the look that a polarizing filter gives, but I don't own one. I saw that Michael Seneschal was trying a demo version of Adobe Lightroom. Since it seemed easier to use than Photoshop, I thought it may be more my speed so I thought I'd give it a try.

This is taken with a plain jane Canon PowerShot S5 IS, but adjusted in a demo version of Lightroom to bring out the contrast in the clouds and ice. If you compare the before and after shots, I think it gives the look that a polarizer was used.

Thanks Allen! I was surprised how it brought out the details in the clouds. The picture may be a little dark now, but I liked the look.

This is terrific, David. It makes me think I should go and root around in my PhotoShop and see if there is a polarizer filter in there. There should
      be. It has everything else.
Or, maybe I should dig out my old polarizer from my old 35 mm. If I just hold it in front of the lens, it might work. I did that on this shot. and it worked.

Lightroom doesn't call it that, it just allows you to change the different attributes of the picture with sliders. I found that I could bring out the details in the sky in a way that reminded me of the comparison shots of photos taken with and without a polarizer.

I'm sure holding the old 35mm filter in front of the lens of you digital camera would have the same effect. Your "noel" shot is interesting!

Wow, looks so beautiful (and so cold!). Love the depth that the clouds have to them.

Thanks! It was beautiful, but not that cold. It was right around the freezing point. The clouds didn't look this great straight out of the camera. The cloud details were all brought out by adjustments in Lightroom.
