      an interesting mix of liveries but I like it.
      if this is the bird I'm thinking of,
      they operated off carriers in the Pacific theatre?
      and could take a lot of hits and still keep going.

      tikvah...the P-47 didn't operate off of carriers. You're probably thinking of either the F6F Hellcat which was a big puppy like this one, or the F8F Bearcat which was smaller but had a bubble canopy. The F8F didn't go into service in time for the Pacific theater.
