To ring in the new year, my partner Maya and I decided to celebrate with our two good friends over on Pender Island. This is where the background in this portrait comes from. it was such a pleasure being in the forest. I miss living near nature. I feel silly saying that because even in Vancouver, the forest isn't that far away! But it's more far away than it was in Victoria for me. Living in a big city has definitely made me realize how easy it was in Victoria, everything was reachable within a 15 minute bike ride. Now it's different but I know that over time Vancouver will start feeling more familiar. It will be good to start feeling like I know where the good photo spots are. At this point I still have absolutely no idea where almost everything is.

What did I ever do without pincurls?

If there was a theme for 2011, it was definitely my health. Especially toward the last half of the year. My ability to use my hands, something so valuable and loved by me became something unpredictable. I was left in pain most of the time. The pain spread from my wrists to my fingers and entire arms. Leaving me unable to do most of the everyday things from opening jars to holding my plate for longer than a few minutes to writing in order to communicate with non-signers to being able to edit my pictures the way I normally would. It was a rough time. It's still happening but seems to be getting better, I have my good days and bad days though. The great news is that I got on my partner's health plan and will be able to get all the help I need. My biggest priority for 2012 is definitely improving my health in every sense of the word.
