My Wonderful Wife

My Wonderful Wife

I spent the weekend with my wife at her parents' house. They're selling the property and moving across the state to be closer to us and their other daughter/son-in-law.

On Saturday, I walked around with Heidi as we visited locations in her neighborhood that had special meaning to her. I was happy to be able to have so many fond memories of these places from my own life. The field behind their house (where we started dating), the tree in that field (where we picnicked a year later), the pond where her father and I photowalked at dawn (and where I took this image) all will be missed. There were many memories for me but 24 years worth of memories for her, my wonderful wife. I love being her partner and sidekick. The chance to share in the nostalgia and such happy memories was fantastic.

Above, Heidi is standing in the lane behind their house.

Some tags from Amsterdam

Some tags from Amsterdam

As our group was walking into the heart of Amsterdam, we passed by an open door at the top of a stairwell. I stuck my camera in, snapped this shot in the pre-dawn light, and continued on. In this case, there isn't any foul language... at least I'm fairly sure. Some of the other graffiti shots I took have questionable content.

In other news, the canon 5Dmark iii is announced! I'm super excited to have the aspects that I loved in the 7D on a full frame camera :) *Happy dance*

An African Toothbrush

An African Toothbrush

This boy is in the midst of demonstrating to me how toothbrushes are made.

The children pick a certain type of plant (very common) and strip the exterior. Even while living it's easy to break cleanly exposing the bristly fibrous vascular innards. Ta-da. Toothbrush.

The mark on the boy's forehead is a sticker. Once passed out, the children wore the stickers on their body until they fell off from natural causes.

Portrait of an Amsterdam Bike

Here's another form of transportation from Amsterdam. In other news I love shooting with a wide open aperture.

Tried an atypical composition with this and I think it works well. I like how things in the frame flow backwards to what you'd expect.
