It seems like portraying the textures of Uganda and this village of Oditel make it more real for me. I threw this image into black and white for that purpose, so see the texture of this boy's skin and that of the floor/wall.

The Xylophone you see is very basic. The kids run out of the building and find two reasonably similar stick which they hit on the ends of the bars instead of in the middle (which is where you would hit if you had a mallet). There aren't specific resonators for each pitch, the whole box sitting on the ground acts as that.

This is one of my favorite shots from that session. I'm primarily a natural light photographer but I think that's because of time/complication preferences on my part. I see the use of strobes as the next level for me as a photographer so I need to start incorporating them more. For this shoot I decided to bring along some of those strobes and I'm glad I did. When we headed back to the house it was pretty cramped on the inside so I knew I should be outdoors shooting in. The silhouette of the house and that tree just make me feel soooo good about my decision to lug around the extra equipment.

I thought this little girl would make for a great subject as she walked away from the area we were playing. She turned around right as I pressed the shutter and that is quite all right with me.
