Back at the Chinese Gardens, Sydney

tech stuff:
large flat areas like this I will often do a separate process to flatten them back out, then composite just the walls back onto the original process. Using photomatix, I would take the strength down, microcontrast down, smoothing up. Finally micro-smoothing up is a really good one to flatten out the detail, not something you normally would want to do but great for flat walls like this.

The heavenly Queen refers to Mazu, who was born during the Sung Dynasty in 96o.
The Melbourne Chinese community have been working for years to get this project off the ground and while not complete, the site has really come along since I saw it last year. When I visited there were many carved stone blocks ready to be erected in the front court yard. The site is on land fill and would have been an industrial building like the rest of the surrounding suburb, the area however is dotted by parkland and a walking track following the river.

100th image uploaded to flickr! it has taken a while but that's all right by me.

thePollyWoodside

The Polly Woodside was built as a trade ship in 1885 by Workman Clark & Co. She travelled the world carrying grain and coal amongst other things, even serving in WWII as a dumb lighter. She was saved in the end by Karl Kortum of the San Francisco Maritime Museum, when he wrote to Dr. Graeme Robertson of the National Trust in 1962.
