Droplet

Inspired by Scoobay's recent pictures using high speed sync for external flashes I tried to replicate the frozen movement of liquids with this droplet of food colouring splashing on a plate filled with a little milk. The timing was the most difficult part. The lighting is the same basic setup I use with almost every shot: A Speedlite 430EX on the camera is bounced by the ceiling and triggers a simple 300W strobe that was covered by a softbox.

Von Scoobays aktuellen Highspeed-Sync-Bildern inspiriert habe ich versucht einen Moment einzufrieren. Dabei ist das Setup wie bei fast all meinen Innenaufnahmen ein einfacher 300W Studioblitz der durch einen Speedlite 430EX Aufsteckblitz auf der Kamera ausgelöst wird. Damit die Fotodiode des 300W-Blitzes das Auslösen zuverlässig erkennt muss die Leistung des 430EX ziemlich hoch eingestellt werden.

Wie triggerst du denn den Studioblitz innerhalb von 1/1600s ???

edit: Ich glaube, du hast es schonmal beschrieben - aber so richtig verstanden hab ich es nicht. Macht dein Blitz immer Strobo, wenn du HSS willst? Und woher weiß die Kamera, dass sie auslösen soll, wenn der Studioblitz gerade leuchtet?

Wenn ich das richtig verstanden habe, nutzen die Canon Blitze immer den Stroboskop wenn die Sync-Zeit schneller als 1/200s ist. Durch das Heraufsetzen der manuellen Leistung vom Speedlite wird dann je nach Distanz und Winkel ab ca. 1/4 der Studioblitz zuverlässig mit ausgelöst. Dabei bekommt die Belichtung aber nur einen Bruchteil der gesamten Entladungsleistung ab. Bei der Aufnahme oben ist der 300W-Venditus am oberen Anschlag. Ist aber alles nur Halbwissen.
