"The Ladies' Mile" bike rack designed by David Byrne. New York, NY 2008.

5th Avenue between 57th and 58th Streets, in front of Bergdorf Goodman.

David Byrne designed nine bike racks that are iconic representations (in his view) of the New York City neighborhood each is installed in. I've decided to chalk the racks that have good shadows. See his website for more on his bike rack project.

Thanks for linking to my photos David. Check out David's new book about cycling through cities all over the world: Bicycle Diaries

Also check out the video tour of the bike rack project by Arkyard. They must have made this in the last week of August 2008 because my outlines of The Wall Street and The Villager appear in their film.

Part of my ongoing series of chalk-outlined shadows at night.

Especially like the juxtaposition between the fixed shoe and the zooming taxi action versus the shadows....

I honestly thought that was the shape of an old-school, Tom-Swift rocketship. It wasn't till I saw the title that I realized it was a red shoe.

That's great. I love it when people see things differently.
