J Niranjan (Kalamkari, Andhra Pradesh)
Niranjan comes from a family of traditional Kalamkari masters who have been pursuing this art for four generations. The works of the family are in the V & A Museum in London and in the Mankind Museum in Ottawa, Canada.

Niranjan studied classical dance to give the right stance to the figures in his paintings. He has received formal training in vegetable dyes and has created many colors in natural dyes. He received a scholarship from the Government of India for two years to study temple art. He has conducted workshops in vegetable dyes and Kalamkari abroad and in India. He is presently working to promote natural dyes in India to protect the environment and works with 30 handloom weavers and 350 Kalamkari families.
