Some little flowering thing I found today on my walk with the dogs. The flowers were ~5mm across, so this too about 15 shots to get the focus right, but I do like it when it is.

Crater Lake

Crater Lake

This is one of a few panoramas I took of Crater Lake with Dani. The weather that day was amazing. When we showed up, it was mid afternoon, and it looked more or less like this. We went into the lodge to make lunch, and while we were inside, the clouds came in and obscured the whole lake, and snowed a bit. We sat and chatted with the staff there at the lodge, and as they predicted, ten minutes later, the clouds were back to looking more like this. Dani and I took off on our snowshoes, and hiked for about a mile down the rim road, which was covered with several feet of snow. The weather was all kinds of active, but it wasn't really bad until just before dark, when the air temperature cooled down about five degrees and the wind kicked up, then it got really cold. Happily, the bathrooms were open, and the were heated! It was the best surprise of the day.

I took several panoramas, but for some reason, this was the only one that I think adequately portrays the lake. The other ones make Crater Lake look smaller than it actually is.

I went up to Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge a little while ago, and I got a few good bird shots, this one is my fav. This guy sat for a good 3 minutes frozen just like this, while I happily snapped away. It was a pretty warm day, so there were a few different snakes out and about, but this guy was totally content with me doing my thing from a few feet away. After a bit, he got bored, and off he went, casually, into the underbrush.

Stout Grove, Redwoods National Park

Stout Grove, Redwoods National Park

Ahhh, this place was simply amazing. I forgot how big redwoods are. They put Douglas Fir trees to shame for their size.

This place was awesome, serene, and devoid of the amount of tourists that the paved trail and parking area imply come during the on season.
