      I had a feeling they might not last. When the guy at the top changes the name from Washington Mutual to a non-word sound like WaMu, he is not taking his bank seriously.

      Dave--There was also a sense of willy-nilly growth; when they entered the Chicago market I was getting three to five letters a week from different branches asking me to open an account and to refer clients to them. It had an air of desperation about it.

      Just as quickly
      as the branches sprang up, seemingly -
      EVERYWHERE-
      they are now " For Rent " -
      or,
      in the case of the WaMu @ Western & Devon,
      an
      " Electronics Store"!
