M67 122911

M67 122911

This a-focal astro photo contains M67. In the 25mm eyepiece this is a beautiful star cluster to observe. This will also be one of my targets for Binocular viewing as well.

Eskimo Planetary Nebula 122911

Eskimo Planetary Nebula 122911

This a-focal astro photo contains the Eskimo Planetary Nebula (NGC 2392). This is a difficult capture. In the 25mm eyepiece this is a very small faint gray fuzzy next to the star HD 59087. With the camera at 30 second capture the true color is brought out and the inner collapsed star within the ejected solar mass can just be distinguished. I believe this is the best I am going to get with a 30 sec exposure limit in my light polluted sky.

Orion 122911

Orion 122911

This a-focal astro photo contains the Orion Nebula. I keep experimenting with this one and each time I manage to capture a little more of the nebula. I believe this is the best I am going to get with a 30 sec exposure limit in my light polluted sky.

Flame Nebula and Satellite

Flame Nebula and Satellite

This a-focal astro photo contains three items. The bright blue star Alnitak. Just to the right and very dim is the Flame Nebula. The streak of light below the two is the track of a geosynchronous Satellite.
It just happens that one of the la Grange points used by many communication satellites reside between our line of sight to the Flame and Horse Head nebula region. As we add more and larger satellites to these areas, they tend to show up in our photos. At times three have shown up in one photo.
The Flame Nebula is the best I am going to get with a 30 sec exposure limit in my light polluted sky.

Jupiter 8 122811 Europa Shadow

Jupiter 8 122811 Europa Shadow

These are stills taken from the video I captured 12/28/11 of Europa transitioning across Jupiter. I used the black and white mode as the camera is much more sensitive than in color. This is the end of the transition and only the shadow of Europa is on Jupiter. The great red (white) spot is just slightly above and to the right of Europa's Shadow.
Equipment used:
Telescope: 180MM Mak-Cass
Camera: Samsung SBC-2000 Security Video Camera
Computer: Gateway Netbook
Capture Software: SharpCap, Photoshop, RegiStax
