This Kookaburra was spotted sitting in a Momiji tree in Dandenong National Park, Australia. Yeah, I know, they don't typically sit in Japanese trees, according to the song anyway :)

The torrential rain had made the rocks here super slick, and climbing down to the river proved a little trecherous. Thankfully, by the time we got to Hopetourn Falls the rain was only drizzling so I was able to keep my lens free from drops.

I rented a Sigma 10-20mm wide angle lens to take for a test drive. I was hopeing for the Canon 10-22mm but unfortunaley it wasn't availabe. I'd be interested in re-visiting with the Canon to make a comparison as I felt that the Sigma lacked the sharpness that I was hoping for. I guess that could also be my humble old 450 EOS :)

I also made use of an ND8 filter for this shot.

I love visiting the Otways National Park. My imagination runs wild, dreaming up adventures and referencing countless movies and stories that fill my head with boyish wonder as I treck through the rainforest. Just a three hour drive out of Melbourne sees a dramatic contrast in surroundings and the natural beauty of this area gives a much needed reality check from the busy day to day grind of city living.

The park covers coastline and hinterland, offering amazing beach landscapes along the Great Ocean Road and luscious temperate rainforests as you travel inland.
