1) print out pattern to the best size for the
pumpkin. If no pattern, and only a
photo/artwork, I create a pattern using
photoshop to optimize the picture for 3
colors (black= outer skin, white= cut all the
way through, grey= partial removal of the
meat but not all the way through). This can
take alot of time depending on the complexity
of the original picture.
2) Apply Elmer's washable glue to the back of
the pattern and apply to the pumpkin surface.
The great thing about the glue is it makes
the paper wet and easier to position on the
rough, round surface of a pumpkin. Let dry.
3) Use a Dremel tool with a 1/32" drill
bit I cut out all the holes. Then I trace all
the "grey" partial cut area.
4) remove the paper and using a wet cloth
clean off the glue residue.
5) continue with the dremel tool with various
bits to remove the pumpkin skin and meat part
way through to get the light to show through.
6) Practice....Practice...Practice....and
stay away from the coffee because you will
need a very VERY steady hand.
Okay, I see your instructions here. So very
impressive. You've created pumpkin art. You
should send this to Jack. Or Stephen King. Or
Kubrick. Okay, one of Kubrick's kids. Or
something! Anyway, thanks for sharing.
OMG! I love this one. Jack makes a great
Halloween pumpkin image. You did a great job,
and thanks so much for the information. I
will have to try that next year!

This pumpkin took me about 3 hours to carve.

That's dedication to your art form. I've done several of these that I thought turned out great, but they look amateurish compared to this. Bravo!
