Heart of Satan - What it looks like when fireworks explode inside of a storm cloud over a river
If you want to see how I made this (and how you can too!), visit my HDR Tutorial. I hope it gives you some new tricks!
This is not like me! I normally never publish a second photo from a
very similar location that is also close in subject matter to the
first. This one is taken from the same vantage point as the other
fireworks shot here in Austin. Ever since I took that first shot,
I've returned to this location to see if something else amazing will
happen.
On this particular night, there was one of those looming thunderstorms, when the clouds are alarmingly low to the ground and black/green in color. They launched the fireworks from the same spot as usual, but they would actually explode inside the cloud. The lower half would burst downward, carrying a trail of fire behind it. The scene reminded me of a giant electric jellyfish of sorts.
The main shot from which this was taken was shot at 17mm (although later cropped), f/5.3, ISO 100, and -1 EV. The exposure was 2 seconds.
This is from www.stuckincustoms.com - I have a tutorial people keep asking me about at stuckincustoms.com/?p=548
from my daily photo blog at www.stuckincustoms.com

This is what we usually get to see in San Francisco being that July is one of the foggiest months of the year. They shoot them into the fog over the bay, but your picture is rad. It makes this technique of shooting fireworks into low clouds so much more interesting than it is too watch it happen.
