2 minute exposure.
Sunrise on the river this morning. High winds and lots of waves, that
is why the branches in the upper right are such a blur. Gusts up to
40-50mph maybe.

Such a gorgeous shot, wonderful light and detail in the rocks! I've got to make myself get up early in the morning sometime when it's supposed to be a nice day. Such a beautiful time of the day to take it all in and get some great photos at the same time. Good thing the wind didn't knock over the tripod!

Fantastic colors. (SAH)

I had to secure the tripod to the ground, especially when I was working in the water, to keep it from blowing over. The legs were also spread wide to help.

@tvphoto - thanks Jason, I was challenged to do something different for that assignment so felt I needed to submit something out of the ordinary. This certainly goes along the lines of what I was more likely to post if I had shot one that met my goals like this one does.

Wow amazing photo! I like the branch blur really adds a lot. How exactly did secure the tripod?
Doug Knisely (53 months ago | reply)
Nice blur. I have still never once gotten an image with blurred motion that I liked, but this one is very good. Fantastic warm colors, too. Must have been risky locking in an exposure for 2 full minutes as fast as the light must have been changing.

@bjritter15 - I wrapped the camera strap around the ballhead and pulled down. Not hard enough to flex the legs any, just firm enough to keep motion from wind at bay.
@D. Knisely - I did a quick test shot at ISO 3200 for 6 or 7 seconds to confirm light, then quickly switched to ISO 100 for the exposure. Then after that main two minute exposure, I captured 1m, 30s, 15s and 8s right after for highligh control. Graduated ND would not give good performance here.

I really like this one Landon. Seems very soft and comforting. Not the image quality, but he feel of the image. The movement is great and I really like the warm tones. Framing and lines are superb. You almost wouldn't know it was still winter. Great job.
Hey, where's all your snow? I'm still 4 feet under up here. I forgot what the ground looks like.

@Phil - The snow along the river is almost gone with the warming trend.
Plenty can still be found up valley though. ;-)

A wonderful, dreamy, kind of surrealistic photo.
You even managed to capture the rising of the sun, as it shows somewhat elongated. (or is it just blown out sky?)
bksecretphoto (52 months ago | reply)
@dulfer - the sun has not even broke the horizon yet here. That is the glow fom the clouds on the horizon. Sun was to rise in about 60 seconds after this last exposure bracketing.
