day151 :: patchwork

    If there was something I wish I inherited, it was my mother's mother's paddle sewing machine.

    I used it once for home economics. It was a beautiful wooden, black, glossy work of art that was passed to my mother.

    Unfortunately, in a fit of "out with the old, in with the new" attitude, my mother decided to throw out the old sewing machine and replace it with an electric one before I could stop her.

    Although my grandmother is still alive, she has suffered a stroke and has severe arthritis, although she is mentally alert she could never bear the pain to do her delicate sewing, nor her scrumptious cooking (she makes the best steamed crabs and popiahs). This patchwork blanket will one day be a mark of her legacy that once was.

    Although I have also inherited her very fair skin and widow's peak.

      ohhh nice one Mela. I own one of those sewing machines and I wish you owned one too. as objects they are simply the most beautiful and amazing things. Mine has silver panels and an art deco egyptian theme with carved drawers. The quilt is very beautiful and looks much treasured by you. Fantastic Photo.
