I got the wings in motion and the head with the thorax is perfectly sharp, except at the tail it is slightly blur. If only I could get the tail sharp, that would be wonderful.

May be the antishake lens or camera would be great for shot like this, so that the shutter speed is slow enough to record the abdomen as sharp and the wings with moton blur.

Today I received a copy of the Animals - Children Encyclopaedia from DK, they had used this photographs in the book and they are giving the Encyclopaedia to me for free. Thanks DK. I was exhilarated!

This is another stunning shot. I don't care if the tail is a little blur. I think it's just a perfect shot.

      Nice!

Maybe the tail blur is caused by it being further away, rather than in motion. Note that the more distant flower point is slightly blurred also.

Hi all. Sorry for the late reply, I am having a short assignment in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

Thanks for all the great comments.

shutter-bugg, sometimes it were just luck and pure bright sunlight. I always look for strong sunlight and blue sky when I went photographing. Some Chinese Tai Chi and slow movement helped in achieving closeness with the insect.

ruslou, Thanks, I think this was the best shot all my collection too. However, it takes the understanding of analysing detail to appreciate this piece. I love the flapping wings; draped in broad expressionist white dashes.

Photophool, I would agree that perfection in a natural setting is difficult to achieve, it needs a certain accident and chance encounter. Almost like the surrealists slogan, the chance encounter of the sewing machine on a dissecting table.

Here you can see more of dragonflies that I had shot over the years.
