Bonavista Mink

Mink photographed back of Mockbeggar Plantation in Bonavista. He was in the big rocks and came up when He heard me approaching. He was only visible for about 3 seconds and then disappeared. Many thanks to Bronson for the phone call that led to this capture.

He's a big one....looks like! Is he an escapee from the farm?

Thank you zircon_215, Rod and Peter. I appreciate your comments, and fav from Rod and Peter, To zircon_215: I think this mink is totally wild, the nearest farm is over 100km distant and there is no reported escape from there.

Bet you had to be quick to catch this one, Kent. Nice capture.

Thanks Clyde for the comments and fav! Yes, I had the camera all set up for the distance I thought he would be at, if I saw him, and he actually came up slightly shorter than I really planned on, but it turned out allright. Got 3 shots off, the first and third I only got part of him. The center shot turned out okay. I was glad I was using a high aperture speed, because I knew he would be quick. That was good.

Thank you so much for adding this to the group. I have been fortunate enough to snuggle a baby ranch mink, but I've never seen a mink in the wild. This is a beautiful photo of an amazing creature.

What a lovely capture! We are not often lucky or organized enough to get a picture so close or of such clarity. Great work. Congratulations Kent.

To Marc: Thanks for your continued interest, I'm having a great weekend, hope you are, too.

To Hoodie: Thanks for the comments. I owe a lot of it to Bronson; that allowed me to organize lens selection and exposure time, etc. Its wonderful to have people that help like that. I have another lead on an eagle's nest, hope to pursue that in the future.

These creatures are so elusive. I saw a similar critter this winter called a fisher cat. I thought it was a black mink at first hopping over the rocks by a tiny stream in a shady and icy ravine. but it was a little too small. quick little things. congratulations on this catch!
