Fellow Flickrite Gordon Stirling recently posted a photo of this bus posed at Marine in which he mentions that it had probably "just been treated to a refurb/fresh coat of paint".
Indeed it had and here it is seen at Shrubhill in the company of sister bus 383 after both buses had just gone through their second major dock. The major docks were carried out to buses after the first 6-7 years' service and again at around 12-14 years old, being a full rebuild of the bus including the engine and mechanical components. The last major docks were carried out in 1989.
The appearance of the Council crest on buses had not long left to go at this point. Its use on new and repainted buses ended in late-1985 with buses thereafter appearing with gold LOTHIAN fleetnames until the LRT Lothian logo was adopted in October 1986. However, the crest managed to hang about on the fronts of buses until well into 1987.
Thanks are due to Brian Melrose for sending me this picture and for allowing me to reproduce it here.
